Location: Sanctuary
A special service of scripture and music for the Advent season, with anthems and carols sung by St. Paul's Choir and St. Paul's Treble Choir. Advent encompasses the four Sundays before Christmas. It is a time of hope, looking forward to the birth of Christ. The scripture readings in the service are drawn mainly from the Prophets, as they promise the coming of the Messiah, and also the visit of the angel to Mary, and the declaration of God's kingdom by John the Baptizer. Music will include some of our most favorite Charles Wesley hymns: "Come, thou long-expected Jesus" and "Lo, he comes with clouds descending", carols sung by St. Paul's Choir, and the Great Advent Antiphons, sung by the Treble Choir. These ancient Gregorian antiphons are settings of the words on which "O come, O come, Emmanuel" is based.
