Dr. May Neal
At the June 4 meeting of St. Paul’s Ordinary Women, Dr. Mary T. Neal, a retired Ob-Gyn, will discuss health issue concerns for mature women.
The brown-bag lunch gathering meets from noon to 1:30pm in J-204. An offshoot of the Ordinary Life Sunday School class, Ordinary Women is open to all women interested in the topic.
With more than 25 years of dedicated service, Dr. Neal practiced with Obstetrical and Gynecological Associates at The Woman's Hospital of Texas until her retirement in 2009. She now serves as a part-time volunteer gynecologist at San Jose Clinic in Houston, named her Volunteer of the Year in 2023.
A member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Dr. Neal also has been actively involved in medical mission trips to Guatemala with Faith in Practice and is an active board member with Medical Bridges, a regional nonprofit that recovers medical surplus and redistributes it to hospitals, clinics, and healthcare providers in less fortunate countries.
Reflecting on her involvement with the San Jose Clinic, Dr. Neal said that it “is a wonderful blessing allowing me to use my knowledge and skills to serve people who really need our help. I always feel that I receive more than I give by working with our grateful patients and wonderful staff as well as mentoring some of our young volunteers who plan to pursue a future career in medicine.”
In addition to her volunteer work, in 2021 she and her husband Ron Neal, contributed $25 million to Houston Methodist to establish the Dr. Mary and Ron Neal Cancer Center.
With a bachelor’s degree in zoology from LSU (1975) and an MD from the LSU School of Medicine-New Orleans (1979), she is the chair of LSU’s College of Science’s Advisory Board and was inducted into the college’s Hall of Distinction in 2012.
Ordinary Women also works with the food pantry at Trinity East UMC and other missions. For more information about the group of this month’s program, please contact Rev. Barbara Robberson via barbrobberson@gmail.com
