Ordinary Women: Immigration Attorney

  • St. Paul's United Methodist Church 5501 Main St Houston, TX 77004 USA (map)

At the March 5 meeting of St. Paul’s Ordinary Women will begin at 1pm instead of the usual noon so those wishing to do so may attend that day’s Lenten Recital presented by ConTempo Studios, which includes two vocalists who are “products” of St. Paul’s music program — Emily Wolfe Irvine and Keaton Brown.

For the meeting program, Attorney Ruben Garza will explain the immigration process and recent changes. He is an associate in the Houston office of the international law firm McDermott Will & Schulte.

As part of the US Department of Justice Attorney General’s Honors Program, Garza clerked for immigration judges at the Houston Immigration Court. During law school, he held clerkships and internships with the US Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Ohio, the Ohio Attorney General’s Office and the Ohio Legislative Service Commission, where he grew acutely familiar with the judicial, administrative and legislative processes involving employment discrimination and workers’ compensation.

A native Texan, Garza is a cum laude graduate of Miami University and also holds an MA from The Ohio State University and a JD from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law.

Today’s brown-bag lunch gathering will meet from 1 to 2:30 pm in J-204. An offshoot of the Ordinary Life Sunday School class, Ordinary Women is open to all women interested in the topic.

Ordinary Women also works with the food pantry at Trinity East UMC and other missions.  For more information about the group of this month’s program, please contact Rev. Barbara Robberson via barbrobberson@gmail.com
