Primetimers: John Biggers Murals at Texas Southern University

  • St. Paul's United Methodist Church 5501 Main St Houston, TX 77004 USA (map)

Dr. John Biggers was the founding chairman of the art department at the then Texas State University for Negroes -- now Texas Southern University Texas. Biggers was an African-American muralist who came to prominence after the Harlem Renaissance and toward the end of World War II. His works have focused on racial and economic injustice.

To avoid conflict with the Thursday Lenten Recital, this day trip will be on a Tuesday — March 11 — rather than the usual second Thursday. Meet at the church at 9:30am to board the bus for Texas Southern University, then lunch at RADO in the El Dorado Ballroom. RSVP required by March 7 to primetimers@stpaulshouston.org. If you prefer to drive your own car, please contact Brad Hrmes via bharmes@gmail.com for logistics.
