World Homeless Weekend: Sew Mittens and Hats

  • St. Paul's United Methodist Church 5501 Main St Houston, TX 77004 USA (map)

Saturday, Oct. 14
Sew Mittens and Hats
10 AM–noon & 1–3 PM | Fondren Hall (2nd floor, Jones Building)
As part of our response to the crisis of homelessness in our community, St. Paul’s will host Sewing with Love, a joint project with the American Sewing Guild Association, SEARCH, Council of Congregations, and the EAC to make simple fleece mittens and hats for SEARCH and EAC clients. Sewists are invited to bring and set up their own sewing machines.

There will be two shifts: 10 am–noon & 1–3 pm. You are welcome to bring a brown bag lunch and stay all day! Refreshments and drinks will be provided. There will also be tasks for people who don’t sew, such as cutting fleece and setting up for those who are sewing. Beginner sewists are also welcome and can learn under American Sewing Guild guidance. Donations of fleece are much needed and appreciated. For more details, contact Merlene McAlevy via mfmcalevy@gmail.com.
