Lenten Recital: Thomas Gaynor, organist

  • St. Paul's United Methodist Church 5501 Main St Houston, TX 77004 USA (map)

Location: Sanctuary

Thomas Gaynor is an international prize-winning young organist, who lives and works here in Houston. Winner of the Saint Albans International Organ Competition, the Third International Bach-Liszt Organ Competition in Erfurt/Weimar, Germany, he is rapidly making his mark on the organ scene. His Lenten Recital program features music suited for Lent by the greatest ever composer for the organ, Johann Sebastian Bach. (I was said that Bach could play the organ better with his feet than other organists could play with their hands!). The concert will feature chorale preludes, and the “Great” Passacaglia and Fugue in C minor, one of the most striking and monumental of all of Bach’s organ works.
