Mercury Chamber Orchestra is one of the finest instrumental ensembles in the country, is based here in Houston, and is St. Paul's Ensemble-in-Residence; artistic director Antoine Plante and his family are members of St. Paul's. This concert features music written by two of the greatest composers of the Baroque era, George Frederic Handel and Antonio Vivaldi. Two the works are specific to Lent or Holy week: Vivaldi’s Concerto in B minor is titled “To the Holy Sepulcher” and his Stabat Mater is a setting of words contemplating Mary standing at the foot of the Cross on Good Friday. It features contralto soloist, Sarah Dyer, a member of St. Paul’s Choir, and opera artist at University of Houston.
