Jane Austen is not only a world-famous author, but was also quite an accomplished amateur musician, and musical young women feature frequently in her novels. Soprano Elissa Edwards brings us a charming recital of music collected, copied by hand, and performed by Jane Austen. The recital will also feature spoken passages from Austen’s novels. Elissa grew up at St. Paul’s, and is the daughter of former Children’s Director, Ellen Edwards. She is a successful soprano soloist, currently working at Washington National Cathedral. For this concert Elissa is joined by pianist Timothy Hester, a professor at University of Houston. He will be playing a piano of the style used during Jane Austen’s day, adding to our experience of being immersed in Regency England.
