A special service of worship on All Saints Sunday where we particularly remember and pray for loved ones who are no longer with us. Music will include Maurice Duruflé's setting of the traditional Requiem sung by St. Paul's Choir.
Parisian organist and composer, Maurice Duruflé was a perfectionist in his compositions - his Requiem is held to be one of the finest sacred choral works of the 20th century, and is a favorite of the best choirs, including St. Paul's Choir, the world over. Woven throughout the beautiful melodies and harmonies are tradition Gregorian chants, which give the music a particularly timeless quality. The "Pie Jesu" (Blessed Lord Jesus, grant them rest) movement features a moving solo, which will be sung by St. Paul's Choir member, Sarah Dyer. Joel Trekell will be playing the virtuosically difficult organ accompaniment. Houston Chamber Choir (including our own Emily Wolfe and Wayne Ashley) won a GRAMMY for its recording of the Duruflé's Requiem in 2020.
