Dr. Amy-Jill Levine will give two presentations — “The Women Who Followed Jesus” and “The Cross and the Roman Empire” — to supplement her new book, Witness at the Cross. The evening will consist of the two presentations with discussion and a dinner. This program is free of charge courtesy of the Pearson Lectureship for Interfaith Understanding. Childcare will be provided.

Dr. Amy-Jill Levine (AJ) is Rabbi Stanley M. Kessler Distinguished Professor of New Testament and Jewish Studies. Hartford International University for Religion and Peace, and University Professor of New Testament and Jewish Studies Emerita, Mary Jane Werthan Professor of Jewish Studies Emerita, and Professor of New Testament Studies Emerita Vanderbilt University

Her books include The Misunderstood Jew: The Church and the Scandal of the Jewish Jesus; Short Stories by Jesus: The Enigmatic Parables of a Controversial Rabbi; five children's books (with Sandy Sasso); The Gospel of Luke (with Ben Witherington III, the first Bible commentary by a Jew and an Evangelical); The Jewish Annotated New Testament (co-edited with Marc Z. Brettler), The Bible With and Without Jesus: How Jews and Christians Read the Same Stories Differently (co-authored with Marc Z. Brettler), and The Pharisees (co-edited with Joseph Sievers). Along with Witness at the Cross, she has written Light of the World, Entering the Passion of Jesus, The Sermon on the Mount, and Difficult Words of Jesus for Abingdon Press. In 2019 she became the first Jew to teach New Testament at Rome's Pontifical Biblical Institute. In 2021, she was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. AJ describes herself as a Yankee Jewish feminist and a decidedly unorthodox member of an Orthodox synagogue in Nashville, TN.
