It’s history! It’s culture! It’s science! All rolled into one at the National Museum of Funeral History.
A guided tour will take the Primetimers through this unusual museum on Thursday, October 10. Those who have reserved and paid for a spot on the bus via primetimers@stpaulshouston.org by October 7 will leave the church at 9am. returning by mid-afternoon.
The 30,500sq ft museum holds 19 permanent exhibits, including Day of the Death/Dia de los Muertos, Jazz Funerals of New Orleans, Japanese Funerals, History of Hearses and Coffins, History of Mourning, and Lives and Deaths of Popes —plus a gift shop.

This large space is a fully handicapped-accessible facility with wheel chair access plus benches for resting.
Founded in 1992 to educate the public and preserve the heritage of death care, the museum has grown over the decades through generous donations and acquisitions of significant items that document the history of the industry. Now it is the largest educational center on funerary customs in the United States and perhaps the world.
In anticipation of the visit, check their website, which also contains a library of articles and other resources related to death, such as how to write a eulogy or an obituary, even the difference between an DNR and DNI. If you can’t make in person, tour virtually.
Lunch after Tour
Lunch at Teotihuacan Mexican Cafe on Airline, recommended by steering committee member Dave Estes, who lives in this general area.
