Location: Fondren Hall, Chapel
Learn about Día de los muertos (Day of the Dead) as we explore the practice of remembering, celebrating, and honoring loved ones and the elements marked by Mayan, Aztec and Incan influences. We will discuss the importance of colors, scents, foods, and storytelling that invoke the memories of loved ones as we take part in the heartfelt and ancient practice of decorating the St. Paul’s family ofrenda or altar.
Join in a group activity to design, create and craft the tapete de semillas (seed mat), the final element of St. Paul’s ofrenda. Young children will also learn about this cultural practice through stories and song and will create art they can use to contribute to the altar or take home.
Spaces are limited to 30 participants. For more information, please contact Kat Denton at kat@stpaulshouston.org.
You are also invited to our Día de los muertos Chapel service on Sunday, October 30 at 9:45 am.
