Every other summer, St. Paul's Youth Group accompanies the church on one of their international mission trips that aids a sister church.
In 2012, we visited the established Emmanuel Church and the new Luz de Vida Church in Cochabamba, Bolivia. While there, our youth participated in a retreat with Bolivian youth from local Methodist churches. Together, they reviewed stories from the Bible, made bricks for local construction, worshiped, played sports, and built strong friendships with each other. Our youth also helped with basic construction on Luz de Vida, as well as played with the children of Emmanuel. The trip ended with a short tour through parts of Bolivia and Peru, including the Floating Islands and Machu Picchu. This summer, we plan on visiting our Bolivian sister churches, again.
We also have a sister church, Grace United Methodist Church, in St. Petersburg, Russia. Since this June, our Youth Sunday School classes have participated in a monthly Skype call with Grace UMC's Youth Group. On the first Sunday of every month, we talk about our similarities and differences in faith, culture, and heritage in the hopes of building strong relationships with our sister youth program. We know that when we are finally able to visit them in Russia that we will have a strong foundation to build upon.
