Welcome to St. Paul’s 2019 Lenten podcast, an audio companion for the Lenten season as together we explore the spiritual practices of prayer and pilgrimage. Each week, we’ll hear senior pastor Rev. Tommy Williams in conversation with special guests who share their own perspectives.

This episode is part one of a three-part conversation, in which Rev. Williams talks with Frederica Mathewes-Green. She is an author and speaker in the Eastern Orthodox tradition and has written 10 books, including The Jesus Prayer and The Illumined Heart: The Ancient Christian Path of Transformation. She concentrates on ancient Christian spirituality as an area both of study and of devotion. In today’s episode, she joins Rev. Williams on the phone for an enriching conversation about prayer.

"Way Forward" update by Rev. Tommy Williams

Dear St. Paul’s family,

From February 23–26, the United Methodist Church will gather as a global body in St. Louis, Missouri for a Special Session of General Conference. Over the past couple of months, I have offered presentations to seven Sunday school classes, Church Council, and other groups to discuss this upcoming conference. If you didn’t get a chance to attend one of those presentations, I invite you to listen to this audio recording to gain an understanding of historical context and what I’ve discerned as my personal posture of leadership during this time.
