Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you? If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy that person. For God’s temple is holy, and you are that temple. (1 Corinthians 3:16-17)
You are God’s temple. You are holy. I am God’s temple. I am holy. I have read it numerous times, and sure enough, that’s what Paul says. Perfect, holy God isn’t only found in our beautiful sanctuary. Perfect, holy God lives in imperfect you and me. It’s one of the messages of our faith that I have to sit with for awhile in an attempt to absorb its enormity.
What an honor! God dwells in us. Right here, right now. We don’t just get to be with God one day, God dwells in us today. And yet… What a responsibility! To allow the love of God to invade our very beings and to not destroy God’s vessel.
Through all of the incomprehensible pain and suffering of our world, God has a plan. We are that plan. When we love others, God abides in us, and God’s love is perfected in us. The question for us, then, is: “How can I be a holy temple for God today?” “How can I love today?” Because if we don’t, it will destroy us. It sounds harsh, but I know what happens to me when I don't let love win.
Dear God of love. I pray that you may dwell in my heart through faith each moment of each day. And that I may know how wide and long and high and deep is your love. Strengthen me with your indwelling power to present myself as a living sacrifice, holy a
