But God proves his love for us in that while we still were sinners Christ died for us. Much more surely then, now that we have been justified by his blood, will we be saved through him from the wrath of God. (Romans 5:8-9)
How do we ever comprehend the depth of this gift... this undeserved gift... this amazing reality of such wondrous love? That Jesus not only "offered" to die for us, but He actually did? If we could fully absorb this truth, would we act differently and walk differently and love differently day by day?
Try something with me.... personalize verse 8.... "While I was still a sinner, Christ died for me."
Would you die for someone else? Would you willingly take the punishment someone else deserved? What kind of connection would you have to have with someone to put yourself in that person's place? How can we ever comprehend the grace that was given us through His sacrifice for us? Remembering full well that God never promised us anything, but sees us through everything!
Thank you Lord, for loving us ... even when we least deserve it!
Lord, I am a sinner.
I am so humbled by the gift of your Son and the grace that was shown me. May the Spirit of Your Son shine in me so brightly that there is no one I can encounter that will not see a glimpse of Your Son in me. Amen
