“My times are in your hand; deliver me from the hand of my enemies and persecutors. Let your face shine upon your servant; save me in your steadfast love.” Psalm 31:15-16

Eugene Peterson's The Message interprets this text like this:

            “Hour by hour I place my days in your hand,

                        safe from the hands out to get me.

Warm me, your servant, with a smile;

                        save me because you love me.”

I am struck by the first line, especially as we reflect on this Holy Saturday, in this span of days where we sit with Jesus almost hour by hour, reading and retracing every move.  This is a quiet day.  Jesus is in the tomb.  All is dark and still.  The message is that our days are in God's hands.  The darkest days, and the glory that we anticipate tomorrow.  This is the message Easter and the message of the whole Gospel: God is with us.  We are not alone.  Thanks be to God.

God, we thank you that you are with us in all things.  We pray that hour by hour, we would place our lives in your loving hands.  Help us prepare our hearts for tomorrow's celebration!  In the name of your Son, Amen.
