“If You, Lord, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand?” But there is forgiveness with You, That You may be feared.  Psalm 130:3-4

The psalmist exclaims that no one deserves forgiveness - and this is not a cause for despair!  Even the best of us falls short of perfection.  And if God judged us for every transgression, no one would be worthy and no one would escape a guilty verdict.  But because God provides absolute mercy, he provides us an opportunity to be penitent.  This is God’s expression of justice. You cannot earn God’s favor or forgiveness, but will receive his mercy unconditionally.

Heavenly Father, we know that none of us are worthy, and we are all guilty of committing sins.  We will be contrite for these sins, ask for your forgiveness, and learn from them, so that we may lead a life aligned with your intent.  In Christ’s holy name we pray, Amen.
