“O come, let us worship and bow down, let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker!”

Psalm 95: 6

I have always been intrigued with the concept of being “co-creators with God”, so the following announcement caught my attention:  “Co-Creators with God Planting” to be held this Saturday.” It referred to the name of a church gardening group.  I was immediately reminded of my mother.

She loved to garden and would always say she was at her happiest when she was “digging in the dirt.”  As a young child I remember her creations –glorious patchworks of color, texture, and fragrance that stirred and delighted me.  Those images will forever be with me and remind me of her co-creating with God.

Worship was more than an hour on Sunday for her.  Through worship, avid reading, personal reflection, and involvement with her church community, she cultivated an intimacy with God that transformed her everyday experiences.Gardening became more to her (and thereby to me) than planting something beautiful.  She was co-creating with God.  Co-creating has been described as manifesting God’s divine intention for all of creation.  This is surely one of the highest forms of worship.

God, help me to live in a perpetual state of worship by exercising the privilege of co-creating with You.  Amen.
