“Therefore, since we are justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” Romans 5:1
This comforting scripture tells us of God’s everlasting love for us even though we all have done and will do things that are wrong. As children growing up in a family, we experience our parents still loving us even when we break home rules: we make messes or don’t remember and willfully decide not to do what they tell us to do. As adults, we continue to be aware of our failures, doubts, and imperfections. In worship our Communion service reminds us that Jesus gave his broken body and blood for us so we have peace (reconciliation) with God. We leave the Communion service with the promise of God’s love and strengthened by the Holy Spirit to give ourselves for others.
Thank you, God, for your grace and peace for each of us, and may your spirit help us bring that grace and peace to our community. Amen.
