“I lift up my eyes to the hills—from where will my help come? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.” Psalm 121:2

This psalm describes a universal experience—feelings of doubt, despair, loneliness, helplessness—when we wonder, “Where can we find God?” Even Jesus felt abandoned, forsaken, on the cross. The psalmist reminds us that God does not abandon us. He is ever in us, as we are ever in Him, who has created us with minds, gifts, talents—and we resolve to embrace and endure the challenges we encounter. He also responds to our needs through our families, friends and communities. We are not alone.

Eternal Spirit, help us recognize your comfort and love as it is expressed in the words and acts of those who care for us. We pray for the sensitivity, strength and compassion to allow your love to live in us and to flow through us in response to our sisters and brothers. Amen.
