For many years, the Lectionary texts have been provided in full in the sermons section of the church website (www.stpaulshouston.org/sermons). Now they also will be illustrated with art curated by Norman Mahan. Weekly posts also will be on Facebook.
A 2011 book-tour lecture at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston by the author of Caravaggio: A Life Sacred and Profane, British art critic Andrew Graham-Dixon, so intrigued Norman Mahan that he developed presentations of his own based on Caravaggio’s religious paintings.
As he worked with that topic, Mahan realized that another interesting series could consist of selecting biblical events and studying how artists have portrayed them over the centuries. That idea has evolved into his researching art to illustrate the Lectionary texts.
