At the start of the new year, Rev. Tommy Williams and Dr. Matt Russell will be co-blogging as they engage in intensive learning and teaching enterprises.

Rev. Williams, who has entered into a Doctorate of Ministry program at Wesley eological Seminary, will be immersed in short-term, intensive coursework in Charleston, SC. He will share his experiences from the classes he will be taking: “Public Engagement” and “Challenging the Tenacity of White Supremacy in the U.S.”

Also in January, Dr. Russell will be teaching at Cambridge with Cleve Tinsley IV, a graduate student fellow with the Religion and Public Life Program at Rice University. Their course, “For the Welfare of the City,” will explore the changing dynamics of ministry in urban and multi-ethnic settings, examining how issues of post-modernity, privilege and identity represent some of the challenges that religious leaders must consciously confront. Russell and Tinsley then will travel to the American Church in Paris to preach and give a series of lectures called “Shalom and the City.”

Follow the blog, beginning January 1, at www.stpaulshouston.org/take-courage as Rev. Williams and Dr. Russell post their reflections, questions to ponder together, links to resources and much more.
