"I knew I needed to do something where I could help those who were hurting." -- Rev. Kim Mabry
After being on the St. Paul's staff for almost nine years, Rev. Kim Mabry transitioned in May 2015 to receive training in Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) at Houston Methodist Hospital. She will talk with the United Methodist Women's (UMW) September 20 meeting about that transition, her chaplaincy work now, and plans for the future.
"Chaplaincy is an incredibly humbling experience," she says. "Every day we encounter total strangers and walk with them through the greatest emotional, physical, and spiritual pain they will ever face. We encounter as many heart-warming moments as heart-breaking ones, and lessons are to be learned from each.
"Now I take these lessons and start the next chapter of my life and ministry. Together with Rev. Dr. Charles Millikan, Vice President of Spiritual Care and Values Integration at Houston Methodist Hospital, we are chartering new territory in patient care. This new endeavor, called Golden Care, brings together the Texas Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church and Houston Methodist Hospital to promote and sustain health and wellness for our most vulnerable patients.
"I look forward to sharing our plans and dreams for the future around Golden Care."
UMW meets the third Tuesday of the month at 10:30 am in Abraham Station. All are invited to attend.
