United Methodists in health ministries will convene for a forum at St. Paul’s and The Methodist Hospital September 8-10 to learn about a new health initiative called “Healthy Congregations, Healthy Communities.”
The initiative is a joint effort of the General Board of Global Ministries, Gen-eral Board of Pension and Health Benefits, and Wesley Theological Seminary.
Work by congregations, annual conferences, and general agencies in health ministry will be highlighted including community outreach, congregational health ministries, hospital-based community engagement, health and wholeness, academia, and spiritual healing ministries.
Global Ministries’ top executive Thomas Kemper considers opportunities in health ministry one of the denomination’s expanding fields of mission. “We look forward to announcing at General Conference 2016 the initial results of the pilot work undertaken by those who participate at the forum," he said.
