The 10th anniversary of the St. Paul’s Choral Scholars program will be celebrated with a concert on Sunday, May 24, at 4 p.m. in the Sanctuary. The concert will feature an alumni Scholars choir as well as this year’s choir. Spotlights will include cappella gems by Palestrina, Bob Chillcott, Alice Parker, and André Thomas. Also featured will be works by Gabriel Fauré, John Gardner, John Joubert, and Ēriks Ešenvalds.
In the past decade, more than 185 advanced high school singers from the greater Houston area have trained for this important endeavor, and have provided music in worship for the 9:45 a.m. service at St. Paul’s.
These vocalists also have represented St. Paul’s beyond that service. Most notable was their appearance as a demonstration choir at the 2013 American Choral Directors Association national conference.
Eddie Quaid has directed the Choral Scholars since the second year. Founding director was Richard Robbins.
A reception in honor of these outstanding musicians will follow the concert.
