Finding the best fit for kindergarten or first grade can be as harrowing as college admissions.
St. Paul’s School will help parents in their decision-making process with their annual “Beyond St. Paul’s School: Information Days” from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. October 1 and 2. Several elementary schools, both private and public, will provide information about their programs available for parents to take. This information will be available in the foyer of the school.
Augmenting this basic information will be a presentation — “Navigating the Admissions Maze” — by educational consultant Carolyn Means and by a representative from Houston Independent School District. The program will be from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. Friday, October 2.
With the goal of taking the mystery and stress out of the process of determining the right fir for a child, Means will shed light on the admissions process for public and private schools. Means is the founder/owner of School Solutions, dedicated to helping families find the right school for children ages 3 to 16. Her website: www.houstonschoolsolutions.net.
The HISD representative will discuss the district’s neighborhood, magnet, and vanguard kindergarten admission process and possible changes to these programs for the 2016-2017 school year.
Both “Information Days” and “Navigating the Admissions Maze” are provided free of charge and are open to the public. To attend the Friday session, please contact the school at firstname.lastname@example.org by September 30.
