The third graders will celebrate with a rite of passage special to the United Methodist Church — during the 11:05 service on September 21, they will be presented with personalized Bibles.
Until this age, the children have been learning to read; now they will be reading to learn.
During the Sunday School hour, these children and their families will be honored with a brunch in the Jones Building basement.
Approximately 35 third graders are enrolled in St. Paul’s Sunday School this year. They are part of the GROW program that also includes second, fourth, and fifth graders. To coincide with the lessons in worship services, the GROW curriculum follows the Common Lectionary. Jane Williams directs the GROW program with a host of volunteer teachers.
Parents of third graders are asked to contact Jane Williams to ensure their children’s names are spelled correctly on their new Bibles and to RSVP for the brunch. Contact Jane at 713-528-0527 or email@example.com.
