In a conversation with Richard Rohr shortly before his untimely death, sage Henri Nouwen opined "you know, Richard, churches should just shut down "doing" things like programs for 2 years and simply teach people to pray!" At St. Paul's we are both/and people and wish to offer programs AND prayer practices.
Beginning Sunday, Feb. 9 at 9:45 in J-203, Rev. Gail Williford will begin a Learners' Circle of folks interested in learning about Centering Prayer. This ancient practice, rediscovered after Vatican II, allows practitioners the opportunity to sit in silence consenting to the presence and action of the Divine in their lives. As the class first meets, we will view a series of DVDs featuring Fr. Thomas Keating describe the method of Centering Prayer. Subsequently the group will study texts on prayer, contemplation, life with God, and other similar spiritual offerings. Always the circle will begin with a time of silent centering as a group.
If you feel drawn to something new in your life, perhaps to the quiet or deep, maybe you experience a gnawing hunger for something more, contact Gail at firstname.lastname@example.org or (713) 528-0529 x. 20. Let's see what God has in store for you.
