The mother church of the Galveston-Houston Archdiocese -- and Texas -- St. Mary Basilica Cathedral, survived the 1900 Galveston storm, providing sanctuary to many survivors, but was closed by Hurricane Ike in 2006. After extensive renovation, the cathedral was re-opened with the first public mass in the renovated structure by Cardinal Daniel DiNardo in April 2014.
Salt & Light will tour the “new” cathedral on Wednesday, October 22, leaving St. Paul’s at 9:30 a.m. A self-pay lunch will be eaten at a Landry's restaurant. Other treats also may be in store for the day.
RSVP by October 20 to 713-528-0527 or email@example.com.
