Marriage Encounter Weekend
Does your "heart ache" when yet another marriage among your church family, your friends, your neighbors, your community, or even in your own family is crumbling?
You can help enhance and enrich couples' marriages to prevent the breakdown of these relationships by encouraging all couples you know to participate in a Marriage Encounter weekend. This is not a confrontational experience, but rather a discovery and growing opportunity in a couple's relationship. The discussion of the weekend is between the husband and wife in the privacy of their own room.
Marriage Encounter-United Methodist is an affiliate member of the United Methodist General Board of Discipleship and a resource of the church. The next Marriage Encounter-United Methodist weekend in the Houston area is November 5 to 7. From April 9 to 11 there is a Presbyterian Marriage Encounter weekend in Houston and also a United Methodist Marriage Encounter the same weekend in Dallas. (All World Wide Marriage Encounter weekends follow the same outline, but the teams and clergy leading each weekend are of the denomination sponsoring the event.)

So often people who are beginning to hurt or to struggle in a marriage relationship don't tell anyone until it is almost too late. There are many couples out there whose marriage has become "ho-hum" or "mundane" who wish they could find or do something to enrich, enhance, and enliven their relationship. The Marriage Encounter weekend is a tool to do just that. Marriage Encounter will help good marriages become great marriages. Additional information is available at www.encounter.org
(For marriages in serious trouble, there is a program called Retrouvaille (pronounced ret-ro-vie, with a long "i" sound as in the word "tie"), to help heal hurting marriages. It is truly a "bridge over troubled water." Sponsored by the Roman Catholic Church, it is open to anyone. Information is available at www.retrouvaille.org.)
