General Information
Location: Maps are available upon request. Ole Moon is near Magnolia, north of Houston, Texas.
Facilities: All rooms are made of logs - well furnished, but rustic. All of the rooms have ceiling fans and air conditioners.
Lodge: One large room for meetings and dining (comfortable for ~20 people), large fireplace, 3 plush sofas, one rustic sofa, one restroom, one shower. The kitchen is equipped with one refrigerator, one gas range (with electric igniter), a table for food preparation, double sink with hot and cold water.
Cabin #1 Two rooms with no bathroom. Each room has two bunk-beds. Sleeps eight.
Cabin #2 Two rooms with a bathroom (shower included). Each room has two bunk-beds. Sleeps eight.
Cabin #3 Two rooms with a bathroom (shower included). Each room has two bunk-beds. Sleeps eight.
Recreation area: There is a large BBQ pit outside near two picnic tables. A large open field excellent for football, softball, frisbee, volleyball or badminton. Please bring your own equipment.
Hiking area: One hundred fifty fenced acres surrounding the cabins and lodge. DO NOT GO ACROSS THE FENCE as the adjoining property is posted property of other owners. Be careful of poison ivy. It is abundant, especially “off trail”. The camp is surrounded by a deer lease, so hiking is discouraged during hunting season (variable year to year but generally from November through mid-January).
Campfires: Building campfires must be coordinated with the caretakers in advance. They will have instructions about where and when it is safe to have a campfire (they are familiar with weather related fire hazards). The chopped wood in the racks is for the fireplace, not campfires.
Caretakers: The caretakers live in the log cabin that is west of the lodge and are available as needed. Please contact them before adjusting the electric water heaters. The heaters are equipped with a safety shut-off and they take quite a while to reheat. The plumbing has personality and you need to continue to hold the knob while flushing. Please notify the caretakers of any deficiencies.
Phone Service: As a retreat center, Ole Moon does not have a land line but most cell phones will have a signal.
Reservations: To make a reservation contact the scheduling office at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church at (713) 528-0527. To secure a reservation, a security deposit is required which will be forfeited if the reservation is cancelled less than two weeks prior to the scheduled use of Ole Moon.
